The UGA Career Center and Alumni Association introduce: UGA Virtual Networking Hours

About These Events

The University of Georgia is proud to offer a free series of online networking events for UGA students and alumni. As a student, you can participate via desktop or mobile device, in up to one hour of 10-minute, one-on-one, text-based chats with alumni participants.

During each event, you will be randomly paired with alumni based on industry, location, educational background or other topics of interest.

Because each event can be accessed via mobile device (no app necessary!), you can join in from campus, home, coffee shop or even the treadmill! Open to all majors and undecided students.

I'm Logged On, Now What?

This is your opportunity to meet and chat with UGA graduates in many different career fields. Try to have an opening line prepared such as “Hi, how are you today?”, “Greetings from UGA! How are you?”, “Hello from an English major at UGA! How are you?”, etc.

Also, prepare a few questions ahead of time to engage alumni conversation. Here are a few suggestions:

  • What did you study at UGA?
  • What do you do professionally?
  • What is your favorite and least favorite aspect of your job?
  • Why did you decide to participate in this event?
  • Can I ask for your advice on ____?
  • If you could do one thing differently in your career, what would it be?

After your conversation, make sure to FOLLOW UP with your connections via LinkedIn or email. You can access the History tab after the event is complete to view each alum you spoke with and the transcript of your conversation. You never know when you might need additional advice or insight into choosing your major career!

Why Attend Virtual Networking Events?

The goal of these events is to provide networking and professional development opportunities with Bulldogs around the world. By participating, you can get great career advice from professionals who were once in your shoes and just starting out, and you might even snag an interview from an alumni professional.

Why Should I Attend?

Hear from previous student attendees on what they enjoyed most about the event:

  • “I liked that I had the opportunity to connect with UGA alumni from all over the nation, not just local graduates. It was great to know that alumni from over 10-15 years were willing to help!”
  • “The ability to connect with many people across a wide range of industries.”
  • “The ease of talking to people from the comfort of my home”
  • “Easy to use for both participants and fun!”
  • “The variety of people.”
  • “Very efficient and cheap method of talking to potential employees.”
  • “I loved the ease of use of the software, and how it showed how many ppl were in each chat room. I also liked that I could see the other person's profile/info while chatting with them.”
  • “That the transcript was saved for later use and that we could see the person's profile on the side of the screen”
  • “Ease of jumping to chats.”
  • “Get real suggestions from alumni.”
  • “I've never experienced anything like this, and it was interesting to see how it worked.”
  • “How much advise the alumni were able to give me.”
