2012 Memphis Corps Member at Teach for America

I learned about Teach for America from a friend and really utilized their website to learn about important dates and information. During the application process, I made sure to get my resume and letter of intent checked at the UGA Career Center, and got some really great feedback as to how to focus on my strengths. After I submitted my application, I was notified that I was invited to the final group interview, and I completed an online activity and selected my region, grade level, and subject preferences. I also had a mock interview with a Career Consultant in the Career Center, which really helped me get some of my nerves out and answered a lot of my questions about professional interviews. I also went through the Career Center career guide for possible questions and practiced them with friends.

On the interview day, I taught a five minute lesson on genetics, worked with a group on an activity, and had a 45-minute individual interview. I felt super confident after the interview and was so excited three weeks later to be accepted to the corps! Now I'm in touch with other corps members and Teach for America staff up in Memphis, and will be starting to study for my PRAXIS exams soon. I'm so excited for this opportunity and the application process was a really great experience!
