College of Public Health: May 2012

Health and Safety Intern at Noramco Inc.

In January 2011, I was looking for a new and exciting job opportunity and hoping to find one related to public health. I used DAWGlink to extensively search for such an opportunity, and came across a Health & Safety Internship with Noramco Inc. in Athens. By using the resources provided by the Career Center, I was able to prepare a competitive resume and had a successful interview in April 2011. I was hired for the position shortly after and have been employed ever since!

Noramco Inc. is a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson and produces active pharmaceutical ingredients for several drugs, including well-known pain relievers, anti-seizure medications and ADHD drugs. My job duties have included performing occupational health tests, managing documents and procedures, and creating a safety data sheet reference manual, just to name a few. The most exciting part of this internship was the opportunity to use my Health Promotion background to coordinate the Health & Safety fair in November of 2011. In addition to planning the event and creating the presentations, I also found new resources for the fair. This included The Sleep Center of Athens as well as a booth about Counseling Services in Athens. Overall the fair was a great success. My experience at Noramco Inc. continues to be a great learning experience for me. I feel very lucky to have had DAWGlink at my disposal during my job search, otherwise I would never have known about this wonderful opportunity.
