Grady College & Terry College: December 2010

AdWords Account Strategist at Google, Inc.

My first engagement with the UGA Career Center was after fall semester of freshman year: I made sure to visit the Career Center to seek guidance in selecting a new major after I realized I needed to change my initially chosen major. Learning about my options from the Career Consultants, who specialize in specific colleges at UGA, eased the stress that changing majors can sometimes have on a student. This allowed me to gain perspective on what I really wanted to study, which turned out to be two degrees: Business Management and Journalism.

Also, the Career Center staff, especially Dr. Marian Higgins, was an important support system for me in helping prepare my college resume and also played a major role in developing my college and career goals early on by attending career workshop series for both Terry and Grady Colleges. The highlight of my experiences with the Career Center was participating in the annual Diversity Recruiting programs, which were a lot of fun and an educational networking experience! Also, mock interviews, conducted by Career Consultants prepared me with the skills I needed to excel at my internship interviews.

In tandem, I utilized networking and participation in both on-campus and off-campus student organizations such as the UGA Music Business Program, Delta Sigma Pi Professional Business Fraternity, Women In Business, and Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT). All of my experiences in these organizations helped me win impactful internships at The Weinstein Company at the Cannes Film Festival, Sony Music Entertainment, Focus Features, Edelman Public Relations, and Google. Interning in various arenas was instrumental in preparing me for the actual career goals I decided to pursue after college, and I highly suggest it!

My first and current job straight out of college is at Google in San Francisco area, California where I'm an Account Strategist working in AdWords Online Advertising with Small & Medium Businesses. I've been a Googler for nearly 2 years and couldn't be more excited about being a part of Google's mission to building technology solutions in order to improve people's everyday lives and businesses on a global scale.

In conclusion, the many college and career resources available to University of Georgia students at the Career Center have given me to the tools to successfully navigate my career trajectory now and in the future. That being said, I'm a huge advocate of the Career Center! UGA alumni and students are so fortunate to have this support team in place that is instrumental in helping us build our college and career successes!
