School of Social Work: May 2011

Graduate Student at The University of Georgia School of Social Work

As I pursue a Master of Social Work (MSW) at UGA, I serve as one of 19 national interns with Project YES! (Youth Extension Services). The internship runs through NC State University and is a partnership between the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Department of Defense (DoD). I develop agendas and curriculum to help military-dependent youth facing deployment cope better and equip themselves with important life skills that will help their family transitions, as well as in personal and professional roles throughout their life. For more information on Project YES!, visit: http://militaryfamilies.extension.org/yes-intern-program/

Project YES! is just one of many military-related activities I have engaged in to prepare myself for a career working with the military. I worked for Military Programs through Georgia 4-H for three years, helped coordinate 3 summers of Operation Purple Camp, a camp for military youth, completed a Summer 2011 management internship at Fort Jackson Child Youth and School Services through Purdue University's Military Extension Internship and served as a keynote speaker at several military-related conferences.
