Features Intern at CNN.com
Hands-on experience is necessary for any aspiring journalist who wants to master the field and with the help of the Career Center and faculty at Grady College, I was chosen to work for CNN, a global leader in news reporting. Throughout my time at CNN, I was able to apply many of the skills and lessons I learned in Grady classrooms to the countless stories I wrote that were published to CNN.com. However, I doubt I would have landed this position if it weren’t for the experiences I gained as an American Society of Magazine Editors editorial intern at InStyle magazine this past summer. While the program was highly competitive, professionals at the Career Center and professors at Grady College revised my resume and application materials that, eventually, landed me in New York City. If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to cultivate a great relationship with top magazine editors or work with some of the most highly regarded publications in the country. I learned plenty over the summer and because of this, I was able to apply these lessons to my personal duties as the Editor-in-Chief of the University of Georgia’s infUSion magazine. The Career Center has been there to help me every step of the way and I am thankful for all of the resources they provide to develop today’s students and tomorrow’s leaders.
