UGA Specific Information for Animal Biosciences

Make animal biology come alive by learning genetics, reproduction, nutrition, regenerative medicine, and management. The Animal Biosciences curriculum is designed to provide in-depth technical and applied instruction in the biological, physiological, health, management, and production of companion and food animals. Course selection can be tailored to a type of animal or students can take classes that cover a broad selection of animals. With this option, you’ll get lots of hands-on experience with horses, beef and dairy cattle, sheep, and pigs. This major allows for ample opportunity to research and study animals through the lens of ecology. The merging of science and application will prepare you for going on to graduate or professional programs. This major covers a broad variety of topics that prepare students for careers in both animal and human health fields and professional school, including all courses required for entry into the College of Veterinary Medicine. Hands-on work experience with beef, horse, sheep, goat, and swine is available to students via internships or part-time jobs.
