UGA Specific Information for Athletic Training

The Athletic Training Education Program is an academic major in the Department of Kinesiology in the College of Education. The ATEP is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Students in the ATEP receive academic knowledge and clinical proficiency in the various domains of athletic training clinical practice. Upon completion of all degree requirements, students are eligible to take the national board examination given by the Board of Certification (BOC) which is required to practice as a Certified Athletic Trainer in forty-nine states. Certified Athletic Trainers, under the direction of a licensed physician, provide health care for athletes and those who are physically active within six areas of clinical practice: prevention, clinical evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning, organization and administration and professional responsibilities.
