What Can I Do With a Major In Germanic and Slavic Languages?
UGA Specific Information for Germanic and Slavic Languages
The undergraduate major in Germanic and Slavic Languages is designed to provide students with communicative proficiency of German and Russian languages and a basic insight into the culture of Germany and Russia. Because the Slavic people comprise many people groups, students majoring in Germanic and Slavic languages study one of the major languages of the world. Primary emphasis for this major is on the German and Russian speaking countries found in Eastern Europe and the countries in the former Soviet Union. While many companies in the United States and abroad are looking for employees who speak more than one language, having a greater sense of the other cultures prepares students for professions in government, politics, international relations and business, banking, trade, or travel. The cultural awareness gained is a transferable skill that will be highly prized.
