What Can I Do With a Major In Regenerative Bioscience ?
UGA Specific Information for Regenerative Bioscience
Regenerative bioscience is a field of study that aims to develop new ways to replace, repair, or regenerate human and animal cells, tissues, or organs from a pathologic/diseased condition. In cases of severe injury or disease (e.g., heart disease, stroke, cancer, etc.), the endogenous repair mechanisms of the body are limited and often there remains no effective treatments. Therefore, the goal of regenerative bioscience is to find a way to cure previously untreatable injuries and diseases. The Regenerative Bioscience major provides training on the underlying biological and physiological processes of healthy and disease states in humans and animals. Students will learn about current and emerging regenerative bioscience strategies aimed at curing previously untreatable diseases and injuries, including cell therapy and cell manufacturing approaches, gene editing tools used to alter disease progression, tissue engineering and bioengineering of novel therapies, and the development of medical devices and novel diagnostics. This program can be used by students to prepare for professional programs (e.g., human, and veterinary medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, etc.), graduate programs (e.g., Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy), or various allied health and bioscience industry occupations.
