• Atlas Business Society**- open to 1st and 2nd year students. Aims to give students a competitive edge in business through resume building, LinkedIn profile creation, and interview preparation, complemented by talks from industry leaders. The society also engages in community service events and hosts social gatherings to foster member bonding.
  • Magellan Program** - open to 1st year students. Semester-long program focused on skill development and peer networking. Applications are open only at the beginning of the Fall semester.
• Alpha Kappa Psi - co-ed professional business fraternity open to all majors. Focused on creating a brotherhood bond and enhancing professional development through seminars, community service, and social events.
• Black Business Student Association - caters to every major within the Terry College of Business. Focuses on promoting resources and opportunities available for Intended-Terry and current students in Terry. BBSA also has an emphasis on professional development opportunities that help students secure internship and full-time roles. 
• Delta Sigma Pi - co-ed professional business fraternity that develops principled business leaders and offers lifelong opportunities for its members, providing training in professional skills, leadership, and service.
• Society of Business Intelligence - open to all majors. Focused on developing and building the "hard" skills of  students, which include data analytics skills such as Tableau, data visualization, SAS, and many more. 
• Society of Entrepreneurs - connects students to resources of the Entrepreneurship Program and the Athens entrepreneurial community.
• Sustainable Business Society - student-led club with the mission of equipping members with tools to analyze and better understand the intersection between business and sustainability. Members will develop a deeper understanding of how businesses can thrive using the triple bottom line (people, profit, and planet) through speakers and the chance to work with local Athens businesses. 
• Terry Ambassadors** - build community and enhance awareness of opportunities within the college by engaging with students and alumni, thereby furthering the Terry legacy.
• Terry Edge Network - open to UGA students of all majors, genders, and degree types. Supports student success by offering experiences and resources to boost confidence and leadership skills, helping students achieve their goals.

POTENTIAL CAREER PATHS

• Actuary:  Analyze statistical data, such as mortality, accident, sickness, disability, and retirement rates and construct probability tables to forecast risk and liability for payment of future benefits. May ascertain insurance rates required and cash reserves necessary to ensure payment of future benefits.
• Claims Adjuster:  Review settled claims to determine that payments and settlements are made in accordance with company practices and procedures. Confer with legal counsel on claims requiring litigation. May also settle insurance claims.
• Insurance Broker or Agent: Sell life, property, casualty, health, automotive, or other types of insurance. May refer clients to independent brokers, work as an independent broker, or be employed by an insurance company.
• Risk Analyst: Analyze and measure exposure to credit and market risk threatening the assets, earning capacity, or economic state of an organization. May make recommendations to limit risk.
• Insurance Underwriter: Review individual applications for insurance to evaluate degree of risk involved and determine acceptance of applications.

Land an Internship: There are many types of risk management and insurance jobs, but some of the best and most desirable jobs for college graduates are highly competitive. For that reason, risk management and insurance majors should seek to complete one or more internships during their time in college. Not only do internships give you valuable experience and make you more competitive, but many companies now use internships as one of their primary methods for deciding who to hire. 

Get Involved: Join a Risk Management and Insurance-specific organization such as Gamma Iota Sigma or the Insurance Society. Pursue leadership positions to make yourself more competitive, and keep your resume updated. 

Start Connecting: The Risk Management and Insurance Department at UGA does an excellent job of connecting students with career opportunities. Take advantage of these resources during your time in school – subscribe to the department’s listserv, attend campus events such as employer information sessions, and network with employers during the RMI Career Fair held each fall.
