Taking a gap year before going into a health professional program? It’s not just okay—it’s smart! Gap years, whether planned or unplanned, are an excellent way to build credentials for your applications, gain essential skills and life experiences, and develop confidence in your abilities as a future health care provider. Attend this workshop to strategize how to make the most out of your pre-health gap year and learn about resources to help you navigate the time between undergraduate or graduate studies and the start of professional school.

This program develops the following UGA Institutional Competencies: Analytical Thinking and Social Awareness & Responsibility. After attending this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Recognize common misconceptions about taking a gap year and define a gap year’s benefits.
  • Define personal and professional values to help with identifying gap year opportunities.
  • Choose 2-4 tasks you’d like to accomplish during your growth year(s).
