Generational Differences in the Workplace

Date: May 1, 2024
Time: 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm

Location: Virtual Venue (Online)

Although age-diverse work environments are not a new phenomenon, the span of generations present has increased over the last few decades as generations age into and out of the workforce. As workplaces diversify, we are challenged to modify our current ways of working with one another or even develop entirely new strategies. Oftentimes, when approaches to work vary and conflicts with one another arise, it is this generational divide that is identified as the culprit for workplace woes. This workshop will explore how age-associated stereotypes impact the workplace, how to recognize when these stereotypes can get us into difficult conversations, and how to navigate “challenges” through an informative and engaging lens.

In this webinar, you’ll learn:
- A cursory understanding of research on generations.
- How to consider generational differences in the workplace.
- Navigating generational differences and avoiding reliance on generational stereotypes.
- Effective communication strategies to consider for enhancing your workplace.

Do you sometimes feel burned out, stressed, or less energized at work? This is happening more frequently as many professionals have moved to remote work after the COVID-19 pandemic. Even when you are in a job you enjoy, this can happen to you, especially if you have been in the same career for years or at the same organization for a long time. We all need to take time for self-care and to recharge our batteries and, too often, this necessary task falls to the bottom of our list. Taking personal time for yourself can help, but re-engaging your strengths in a different way at work or re-evaluating your values and priorities can also make an enormous difference.

In this webinar, Hallie will discuss how to handle this difficult situation and provide you with several ways to recharge and feel re-inspired again. You will learn:
1. How to identify your personal and career values
2. What you can do to honor your values more, personally and professionally, on a regular basis
3. 10 tips to manage feeling burned out

How to Sign Up:

  1. Submit your resume to the UGA Virtual Mock Interview job posting by Monday, January 15, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. on Handshake.
  2. Sign up for an interview slot. Space is limited, and interviews will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

How to Prepare:

Wear business professional attire and prepare as if this were a real interview. You can view this article on video interview tips for information to help you prepare and avoid technology hiccups.

Log in to the meeting 10-15 minutes before your interview to ensure your technology works properly.

Have your resume ready to share via email or upload for the employer to view.

No-Show/Last-Minute Cancellation Policy:

Please take your mock interview sign-up seriously as employers are taking the time to be available for these interviews, and employers will receive your name ahead of time so they will expect you. As with our on-campus interviews, if a student cancels less than 24 hours before the scheduled interview time, or if the student does not show up for a scheduled interview, the student’s Handshake account will be blocked. To have their Handshake account unblocked, the student must write an apology/explanation letter to the interviewer within 48 hours of the missed interview.

Application Deadline:

Monday, January 15 @ 11:59 p.m. on Handshake. Please note that we have limited space and interviews will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
